Director, Operations

 

 

Job Purpose

Responsible for providing exemplary leadership to ensure delivery of an exceptional customer experience, achievement of short-term business results setting the company up for long term success.  This role will provide strategic direction for the assigned region and is responsible for the operational performance of stores and departments within the region, including customer service levels, product quality, financial results, work environments, compliance with policies and regulations, community presence and team member engagement and development. 

 

Responsibilities

1. Field Leadership

Provide strategic direction to the region by developing, executing and measuring strategies that drive sales, streamline processes and drive efficiencies to increase profitability.  Communicate, support and execute the company’s vision, goals, expectations, strategies and policies while maintaining open communication channels with the District Managers for ideas, suggestions and feedback.  Achieve region customer satisfaction, productivity, profitability and earnings goals.  Visit stores routinely and evaluate conditions and operations to determine the areas needing improvement.

 

 

2. Operations Improvement

Lead region operations team to consistently improve business results.  Identify business opportunities through profit analysis and create action plans/strategies that will support short and long-term growth.  Continually assess operational and merchandising issues/challenges and develop comprehensive solutions to achieve mission-critical objectives.

 

 

3. Team Management/Human Resources

Ensure staff has the skills, knowledge and training necessary to execute strategies that support overall goals efficiently.  Promote and monitor fair and consistent application of company policies and procedures, and adherence to all regulatory and compliance laws.  Select, manage, develop, evaluate and retain an inclusive team of direct reports.  Develop and maintain district manager, store manager and regional support team member succession plans.

 

 

4. Industry Knowledge

Ensure execution of effective merchandising plans by partnering with store operations staff on product planning, pricing, and layout.  Stay abreast of industry best practices. Identify ways to streamline operational practices and reduce goods, labor and waste costs.

 

 

5. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Education Required:

Bachelor's Degree

Course of Study:

Business Administration or related field.

Education Preferred:

Master's Degree

Course of Study:

Same as above.

Relevant Experience:

15+ yrs minimum

Language(s) Required:

English                                    

Supervisory Experience:

10+ yrs minimum

Language(s) Preferred:

English                                    

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

Demonstrated experience in a multi-unit leadership role with working knowledge of retail grocery store departments and total store operations.

Demonstrated ability to deliver exceptional customer service, team member engagement, merchandising, sales and profitability results in a multi-unit retail environment.

Possess valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.

While performing the essential functions of this position, the associate is regularly (67-100%) required to sit, use hands or fingers to handle, hold or feel objects, tools or controls, talk, see, hear and perform repetitive movements with both hands.  The employee is occasionally (1-33%) required to stand or walk on carpet, tile or concrete, carry, push, lift or pull up to 10 lbs.

While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is typically not substantially exposed to adverse working conditions.

Safety Risk Factors:

The employee is occasionally (1-33%) required to twist back and/or neck and walk on a slippery or cluttered floor surface.

While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee will be required to utilize a personal computer, telephone, printer, copy machine, facsimile machine and other general office supplies and equipment.
